Behavior Code
Behavior
We have two general guidelines about youngsters’ behavior in school. They are:
· Treat others the way you want them to treat you.
· Do only what is safe and healthy for you and your friends.
In their classrooms, our children will translate these guidelines into more specific rules, such as “Don’t run in the halls” or “Be polite to people.” We encourage you to reinforce our guidelines.
Weapons
State law and school-district policy prohibit anyone except police officers from bringing weapons only school property. Weapons include items such as Swiss army knives, toy guns or any similar “tools” that can be of danger or threatening. There is no reason for a child to have such implements at school. Therefore, we specifically forbid pupils to possess such items at or in CP. Students who bring such items to school may be suspended.
Verbal threats made by students will be subject to disciplinary procedures.
Cellphones
Students may not use cell phones during the school day.
Lunch & Recess Behavior: The lunch/recess period is 60 minutes long. Students are assigned to lunch tables by class. Children are encouraged to take time to enjoy their lunch and have informal conversations with their classmates. The following lunchroom rules are to be followed: 1. Show respect for your classmates at all times. 2. Practice proper table manners at your class table. 3. Place trash into the trash can and clean the area after you finish your meal. 4. Running in the lunchroom is not permitted. Teaching assistants and the principal are available to assist and monitor the children. Parents may have lunch with their children. Children are encouraged not to share snacks as there are many children with allergies.
Recess: To ensure that everyone has fun and is safe on the playground, the following rules must be followed: 1. Games which involve contact or hitting are not permitted. 2. Team games or imaginative games should include safe and respectful play activities. Inappropriate language and inappropriate behavior are not permitted. 3. Students playing on the playground and asphalt areas should wear sneakers or rubber-soled shoes.
Please do not send children to school with electronic games, walkman, etc.
Each class has play equipment (balls, jump ropes, etc.) for recess. Children should not bring their own play equipment.
Bus Transportation and Safety Rules:
1. Children are to board and leave the bus in a safe manner. Running is not permitted when
entering or exiting the bus.
2. Children must sit and remain in their seats until they reach their assigned bus stop. Children must use the seat belt when available on the bus.
3. Children must respect each other and the bus driver.
The bus driver will report students who misbehave or compromise the safety of the children on the bus to the principal. Parents will be notified, and appropriate action will be taken, which may include suspension from the bus. To ensure that all children will have a safe bus ride, please review these rules with your children.
Children may not ride home on any bus other than the one to which they are assigned. Guests are not permitted to ride the bus.
