Hands-on Science
Behavior and Life Cycle of Insects
This year we will be studying the life cycle of a butterfly through the metamorphic process. Our observations will lead to a study of insects and their surrounding world. Our caterpillars arrived in October. The students have a log that where they will record observations of the process. Posted below are pictures from the process.
See the butterfly that has just emerged at the top of the picture.
Weather and Climate
In this unit we will study weather through data that we gather. We will also collect data about climate around the world. Students will also study the water cycle. We also examine the conditions that cause currents. We recently learned the phases of the water cycle through a song.
Magnetism
During this unit students will be introduced to the concepts of magnetism. We will observe the ways two magnets influence one another. We will also describe properties of magnetism. Students will also experiment with the interactions of magnetic forces on objects.
Rocks and Minerals
In this unit students will investigate, experiment, categorize and describe rocks, pebbles, and minerals.
